A tsunami is coming
…the force of which will transform Jesus’ church
WARNING: We are approaching a monumental transformation
The church is called to make disciples, not members. We must now refocus on Jesus and His Word, in love and by His Spirit. In the midst of this impending spiritual battle, we must equip a new generation of followers of Jesus to lead people to higher ground.
And we are looking for allies…
Are you an Ally?
YOU MAY BE AN ALLY
If you are…
- Passionately in love with Jesus.
- Hungry for God’s Word.
- Called, emboldened, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
And you realize…
- The church needs to change.
- We are in a spiritual battle.
- It is urgent to reach the next generations.
Who We Are
Church Awake is a ministry that talks with our Allies about the coming tsunami of church change. We are helping to fulfill the Great Commission by supporting the next generation of leader-believers in making and multiplying disciples one heart at a time.
Our Mission
The mission of Church Awake is to engage allies for the coming tsunami of church change so that we are better prepared when it comes.
The mission of Charlotte Awake is to multiply disciple-making communities of believers one heart at time.
The mission of Wisdom of Old “Soles” is to walk God’s path together with the next generations.
Our Vision
We envision a healthy church functioning as organic networks of networks who make and multiply disciples one heart at a time by decluttering church.
What We Ask
We are looking for allies who are called by God to engage this coming tsunami of church change.
What We Offer
We offer connections to other allies, prayer, teaching, insight, and training to be small, interconnected, decluttered “Clusters” of believers.
What We Believe
Your biggest question is probably whether or not we’re legit. We affirm standard orthodox doctrinal statements like the Lausanne Covenant.
But maybe a shortcut would be for you to know that Pastor David Ingrassia received his degrees (1984, 2012) from Dallas Theological Seminary.
If that means anything to you, then you recognize we are theologically conservative. Yet, decades of ministry allow us to stretch very far and to love the church in all our distinctives.

What is a “Congregation?”
The church was a mystery God held closely until the right time. What does it mean to be the church at a place that is not our home? To answer that question, we must understand what we mean by a church “congregation.”
The church itself is one, but congregations are many. The one church exists worldwide as the people of God indwelled by the Holy Spirit. It also exists in heaven among those who have already died. While there is only one church, there are gatherings of believers or “congregations” worldwide.
A “congregation” is a local manifestation of the “church,” so we should not be surprised that the definitions sound similar, though not identical. A “congregation” is not a mini-church or micro-church. Every congregation is just as much the church as every strand of human DNA contains a person’s entire genetic code.
The definition of “congregation” sounds similar to the “church,” but the differences are in the particulars.
A church “congregation” is a local expression of God’s manifest presence in the one true church: (1) at a particular place, (2) among particular people, and (3) for a particular time— all for God’s particular purpose.
What is the “Church?”
What is the church?
It sounds like an obvious question until you ask people and receive numerous answers.
Some definitions sound scholarly by referring to the Greek text of the New Testament (ekklesia) and often rendering the single word erroneously as a prepositional compound of two Greek words, ek (out of) and kaleo (to call), signifying “called out ones.” Never mind that the Greek term actually means the opposite— “called together ones,” as signifying an assembly coming together.
Some correctly note that the church is not the building but the people. But then we go ahead and tell people we are going to church, meaning we are going to a service in the building. Don’t even get me started about how we fold our hands together and tell children, “This is the church, and this is the steeple…”
Congregation Clusters
“Congregation Clusters” are church plants.
Below are links to our podcasts the Clusters ministry outside Philadelphia. These are parts one and two of a three-part interview with Joey and Meredith Ingrassia.
We are also sharpening our terminology. We continue to call the regular groups who gather around the Word to make disciples, “Clusters” or “Bible Clusters.” But those groups that are church plants we now call “Congregation Clusters.” What makes a Cluster a congregation is when at least these three characteristics exist:
(1) They recognize themselves as a congregation.
(2) Spiritual gifts function to build the body up in love.
(3) Biblical leadership emerges.
You can always find our weekly podcasts either on Spotify under “Charlotte Awake” or on our website for our allies (https://churchawake.org).
Note that the allies website is Church Awake, not Charlotte Awake.

Podcast
Church Awake is a ministry of Charlotte Awake. For the moment, this podcast below is the Charlotte Awake podcast that relates to our specific ministry of multiplying disciples in Clusters as the organic Body of Christ (as opposed to Sunday Morning Church). Church Awake will have its own podcast soon. It will replace what is below and you will also be able to find the Church Awake podcast on Spotify.
